About Me
You want to clearly communicate with your audience. I’m an expert at aligning my writing to your brand’s voice and crafting a compelling message that delivers results.
As an experienced freelance writer, editor and photographer with a lifelong devotion to horses, I produce award-winning articles and photos for more than a dozen equine publications. While my wheelhouse is western equine publications, I also write for regional and lifestyle magazines, websites and blogs. I am the contract managing editor for The American Paint Horse Association’s Paint Horse Journal and Chrome, and I am the contract editor for Western Life Today magazine.
In addition to crafting content, I’m also a copywriter for a variety of platforms. I’m deadline-driven, meticulous about grammar, and enjoy collaborating to achieve just the right end product.
I'm a skilled photographer for the equine industry, and my photos have appeared on 24 magazine covers and counting, but I also photograph humans for editorial, commercial and portraits,
I was a horse-crazy little girl, and grew up reading horse magazines, spurring on my passion to learn and contribute to the publications I work with today. I showed Quarter Horses as a youth and while in college, competed on the Texas A&M Equestrian Team.
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my husband Zach and our children Wilder and Felicity.
Your Complete Guide to Equine Arenas
The only book available on creating and managing professional-grade rings, pens, arenas, and tracks for riding and competing horses.
One of the secrets to keeping horses sound, reducing injuries, and enabling them to reach peak performance, whatever their discipline, is careful consideration of the surfaces on which they are trained and conditioned. Intentional steps must be taken to create the ideal conditions with the biomechanics of the horse and specific demands of the sport in mind.
The good news is that decades of study and millions of dollars have been put into the development of best practices at the highest levels of Western, English, and racing competition, and in this meticulously researched book, horse industry veteran Abigail Boatwright boils it all down into a set of guidelines that anyone can use to improve their ground at home. Whether you're starting with an empty field or renovating an existing arena, the expertise Boatwright has gathered will help you make sure the riding and training space you have is the very best it can be: safe for both horse and rider, functional and correct for your chosen equine activity, and prepared to help rather than hinder the development of your horse's performance.
Insight, tips, and advice from leading arena builders and maintenance tool creators supplements expertise specific to a wide range of Western and English disciplines, as well as racing, along with both indoor and outdoor training spaces. Readers find clear instructions in how to:

Capturing the relationship, whether it’s between horses and humans, couples, families or between a boy and his dog, are some of my favorite parts of my job. My background shooting editorial for horse magazines makes my equine photos technically correct, but I’m always looking for the emotional connection to shine through in my images. I love crouching in a pasture while foals prance and stretch their legs. Couples in love make me happy. Most of all, I love seeing a little girl discover the joy of being one with her horse. Taking those photos allows my clients to always remember those special moments in time.
Photo shoot packages start at $250. High resolution, edited images and an online proofing gallery are included. Please inquire for more info on packages and pricing!
In 2018 I launched Abigail Boatwright Communications Stock Photos, where I’ve archived more than 1400 images of horses suitable for editorial, commercial, social media and blog use.
